Year-Ender 2022 Recap: Kang Ki-young, Jinyoung, Bona – 5 Kdrama Supporting Actors Who Deserve A Huge Round Of Applause

0

There’s always a reason why a certain character is introduced in a Korean drama. He or she will either lead to a new storyline or a turning point or end it all. They may not be leads in the series but steer the entire story in the right direction. Or just be that shipper or support system for the lead. In 2022, the instances of such characters have been quite low compared to 2021 but they are there and today we will speak only about these actors who deserve all the appreciation they can get. In fact, at times, they deserve it more than even the leads. Here’re five such actors. Year-Ender 2022 Recap: Kim Go-eun, Park Eun-bin, Kim Hee-sun – 5 Kdrama Actresses Who Didn’t Need A Man To Save The Day.

Kang Ki-young – Extraordinary Attorney Woo

Kang Ki-young is a familiar face. We have watched him in many kdramas as the funny friend of the lead (What’s Wrong Secretary Kim) but for Extraordinary Attorney Woo, he is an indispensable asset. This kind of content turns to cliche quite often where the boss doesn’t take to a lead with disability at first but later comes around or is overtly supportive to the point of overlooking the mistakes. But Ki Young as director supervisor Jung Myeong Suk strikes the balance perfectly. He reprimands and recommends Woo equally. This character is simply the best one of the entire year!

Jinyoung – Yumi’s Cells Season 2 & Reborn Rich

Many would argue Jinyoung wasn’t a supporting character here but Yumi’s Cells was never about the men in the first place. It was about Yumi played by Kim Go-eun. Jinyoung provides the perfect foil in season two of the show. The attraction, the distraction and the eventual rejection… Jinyoung was simply the best. As for Reborn Rich, we didn’t even know he had a cameo in it and there he was nailing every scene. Personal opinion, Jinyoung in the first episode is all we could watch and remember in the Song Joong-ki show.

Bona – Twenty Five Twenty One

There are certain facets of Twenty Five Twenty One that are simply heartwarming. Na Hee-do and Yurim’s friendship is one such facet. It started with rivalry and the transition to friendship is deeply satisfying. Ko Yurim as the snobbish fencing legend first and the protective best friend later is simply fascinating. Even her conversations with Baek Ye-jin (Nam Joo-hyuk) are heart-touching especially the one where she gets maligned in the press due to him. What a mature character and performance.

Seol In-ah – Business Proposal

Seol In-ah is everything in Business Proposal we would love to be but can’t. It’s as if Jin Youn-seo is her. While we loved Kim Se-jeong, In-ah is the one that stayed with us long after the series was over. She is out there, falling in love, flaunting it, believing it, and living it.  BP wouldn’t be half as entertaining as it is now without her. That’s a fact!

Kwak Dong Yeon – Big Mouse

A hero cannot be a hero if he doesn’t have a solid friend supporting him in everything. Kwak Dong Yeon has been that for Song Joong ki in Vincenzo last year and for Lee Jong-Suk in Big Mouse in 2022. His friendship was often tested in the latter but his undying devotion to Suk in the series is infectious. He deserves to be protected! Big Mouth, Snowdrop, Anarchy of Souls – 5 Kdramas of 2022 That Didn’t Care For A Happy Ending or Our Hearts.

We are pretty sure we may have missed a lot of them who deserve a mention here. So please do us a favour and mention them in the comments below.
