Leopard sneaks up and attacks woman on balcony

A woman is attacked by a fearsome leopard as she sat on her balcony before managing to fend it off with her walking stick.

Nirmaladevi Singh, 55, bravely fought off the animal as it ambushed her before crying out for help.

She was sitting outside her home in Maharashtra, north India, when the beast approached.

The dramatic moment captured on CCTV shows the predator lying in wait outside a house on Wednesday

The leopard can be seen prowling around the outdoor space before approaching the woman.

She turns around at the last moment and the creature suddenly leaps up at her.

Mrs Singh falls to the ground and uses a stick to beat the leopard away while it continually claws at her.

The big cat backs off as she continues to hit it, before other people then come to her aid.

She suffered scratch marks to her face, elbow, arm, back and leg, but her injuries were luckily minor.

The incident was the second leopard attack in the last three days in the area.

Now the forest department have installed 10 CCTV cameras in the area, authorities have confirmed.

Gajanan Hire, in charge of the Thane Forest Division, told the the Times of India that the claw marks clearly hints that the attack was carried out by a sub-adult leopard.

“Immediately after the first attack, we sought permission from the principal chief conservator of forests to trap the animal,” they said.

“There is a protocol to be followed before we can lay the trap and which is being done.”
