NEW DELHI: Aam Admi Party (AAP) on Thursday launched a scathing attack on its INDIA bloc partner Congress, accusing it of working with BJP for the upcoming Delhi polls.
Addressing a press conference, AAP leader Sanjay Singh said, “Congress doing everything to help BJP win Delhi polls.”
AAP also announced that it would seek Congress’s removal from the INDIA bloc if no action is taken against Congress leader’s Ajay Maken’s recent statement against the AAP supremo.
Accusing Ajay Maken of playing by BJP’s script, Sanjay Singh said, “Congress leader Maken called Arvind Kejriwal ‘anti-national.’ The Congress party must take action against him within 24 hours.”
This sharp rebuttal follows Ajay Maken’s statement, where he described the Congress party’s decision to support AAP in forming the government in 2013 as one of the biggest ‘strategic blunders’ that led to its decline in Delhi. “I feel that today the plight of Delhi and that the Congress got weakened here is only because of the fact that we supported AAP for 40 days in 2013,” Maken, who is also the president of Delhi Congress said on Wednesday.
AAP is also miffed with Congress after its youth wing filed a complaint against Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of “misleading and deceiving” the public with promises of “non-existent” welfare schemes.
Further, chief minister Atishi added to the accusations, alleging that the Congress party is receiving campaign funding from the BJP.
“Congress’s actions have made it evident that it has joined hands with the BJP for the Delhi elections. Yesterday, senior Congress leader Ajay Maken called Kejriwal anti-national. Have they ever raised such accusations against any BJP leader? No, but they are targeting AAP,” CM Atishi said.
“Yesterday, the Youth Congress filed an FIR against Arvind Kejriwal and me. Additionally, we have learned from official sources that the BJP is funding Congress candidates, including Sandeep Dixit. We demand answers; otherwise, we will discuss with INDIA alliance partners the possibility of withdrawing our alliance with the Congress party,” she added.
Meanwhile, the BJP sought to play on the tiff within the two INDIA bloc partners, saying “The public of Delhi remembers how just six months ago they (Congress & AAP) as INDI alliance fought elections together. It is visible now what people belonging to these parties have against each other in their hearts…None of the two will come to power…”
