Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mane have joined forces at Al Nassr, forming the most dangerous frontline in a summer transfer window that has seen a great influx of talent to the Saudi Pro League. Mane joins the Saudi club after a transfer away from Bayern Munich, and earned a start in his first appearance for his new team.
Ronaldo enjoyed the presence of a new top-quality winger alongside him, and despite the pair having slowed down in recent years, they remain a creative and lethal combination. Ronaldo opened the scoring in their Arab Club Champions Cup quarterfinal against Raja Casablanca of Morocco, as the Saudi club ran out 3-1 winners and booked a spot in the semifinals.
Ronaldo’s goal was very well taken, as Anderson Talisca set him up on the edge of the box, and a powerful left-footed finish gave Al Nassr the lead. The ensuing celebration provided an amusing moment between the Portuguese star and his new Senegalese partner, as Ronaldo set off to do his famous ‘siuu’ celebration and asked Mane to join him.
Video has captured Ronaldo doing the trademark move, with Mane parroting him in the background with a jump of his own, as the crowd also called out with the iconic ring of the ‘siuu’ proclamation.
This isn’t a new phenomenon for the former Liverpool winger, who is popular amongst fans of his former club for often mimicking the celebrations of his attack partners such as the flamboyant Roberto Firmino, who is also now plying his trade in Saudi Arabia. Mane has joked in the past about how Firmino actually copies him, rather than the other way around.
Ronaldo will be hoping the addition of Mane to the Al Nassr unit will help propel the club to a league championship and silverware in cup competitions as well. Al Nassr did sit on top of the table when Ronaldo joined them last December in a blockbuster move from Manchester United, but slipped down as Al Ittihad claimed the title.
The 38-year-old has found some form, with three goals in his last three appearances, and will look to carry that forward into the new league season alongside Mane. The Senegalese was taken off during their quarterfinal match, but will hope to get on the board at his new club in the semifinal encounter against Al Shorta of Iraq on Wednesday.
