Waris Punjab De: Intel: Bid to radicalise inmates of de-addiction centres run by Waris Punjab De | India News
NEW DELHI: While Amritpal Singh continues to elude the Punjab Police, Waris Punjab De (WPD), the organisation he heads, has also come under the scanner of the intelligence agencies with reports pointing to attempts by WPD associates to inculcate a radical and violent way of thinking in inmates of the drug de-addiction centres run by the outfit.
тАЬIf the inmates do not subscribe to the radical views, they are physically beaten up till they start toeing the line of WPD,тАЭ a source said while claiming that WPD uses inmates of drug de-addiction centres to stage violent protests.
тАЬAmritpal is involved in nexus of drugs and procures low quality cheap antidotes of drugs, thereby prolonging in-matesтАЩ dependence on drugs,тАЭ an officer told TOI.
тАЬNo doctor is engaged for drug de-addiction centres by WPD,тАЭ the officer claimed. The illegally-run deaddiction centres also serve as a convenient place for stockpiling weapons, as does Jallupur Kheragurudwara.
Amritpal is said to share links with Jaswant Singh Rode, whose brother Lakhbir Singh Rode is allegedly involved in trafficking of drugs from Pakistan to India, leading to suspicion that the WPD leader may also be invol-ved in the drugs business. That there has been an increase in drones carrying drugs from across the border since Amritpal arrived in Punjab, is not seen as a coincidence.
AmritpalтАЩs London-based handler Avtar Singh Khanda has links with terrorist Paramjeet Singh Pamma, who is accused of sending drugs to India. The WPD chief is also known to share cross-border linkages with drug dealers based in Pakistan like Billa, Bilal, Rana etc.
It is alleged that Amritpal is building a private militia of defiant inmates of his drug de-addiction centres and uses them to create law & order problems in Punjab.
Intelligence agencies also believe Amritpal has known linkages with ISI in Pakistan which help him in illegally running the drug business.
Amritpal, who is alleged to have been trained by ISI in Georgia before coming to India, has created a private army called Anandpur Khalsa Fauj (AKF). However the AKF is just a team of criminals, said a source. AKF is written on the gate and walls of AmritpalтАЩs house in Amritsar, besides jackets and weapons of his aides. Many of these weapons are illegal and may have been sourced from Pakistan through ISI.
Incidentally, there is some unhappiness with AmritpalтАЩs leadership in Waris Punjab De as he gives no accounts of its collections during programmes in the name of religion like Khalsa Waheer and Amritpan. Some allege that these funds are being usurped by AmritpalтАЩs family, including his uncle Harjit Singh and brother Harpreet Singh.
