VW stops taking orders for some plug-in hybrid models

The move is intended to prevent delivery times from lengthening further, a VW spokesman told Automotive News sister publication Automobilwoche.

Delivery times for some models are already eight to ten months, Automobilwoche said, citing company insiders.

VW joins Audi in imposing a freeze on plug-in orders due to production interruptions.

The news follows VW’s decision to halt production in Russia and temporarily suspend production at several factories in Germany over the past two weeks.

The automaker’s main plant in Wolfsburg will be idled from March 14 to March 18, VW said. Its Zwickau plant, which makes EVs, will also stop producing until March 18.

Its Hanover and Dresden plants as well as two factories in Poland are also affected, the company said.

Ukraine and Russia are minor sales markets but delivery bottlenecks for components such as wire harnesses produced in Ukraine, as well as rising raw material prices, are hampering output for automakers across the continent.
