VIT-AP University Celebrates 76th Republic Day with Tributes to Unsung Heroes

The 76th Republic Day Celebrations at VIT-AP University were held with grandeur. The event was marked by the presence of the Chief Guest, Mr. Rajasekhar Rao Sakhamuri (Vice President and Head of Asset Life Cycle Intelligence Division, Hexagon Capability Centre India, Hyderabad, Telangana), who hoisted the national flag.

In his speech, the Chief Guest praised VIT-AP University for its commitment to social responsibility, stating that the university honours and recognizes the contributions of unsung heroes to the society during Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations every year. He commended their efforts in serving society and remembering those who sacrificed their lives to protect others.

As part of the event, a financial assistance of ₹25,000 (Twenty-Five Thousand) was extended to the family of Mr. Ramineni Durga Prasad, a VIT-AP University bus driver who tragically passed away following a severe cardiac arrest. Additionally, ₹2,50,000 (Two lakhs Fifty Thousand) was donated to the District Sainik Welfare office – Guntur.

Vice-Chancellor Dr. S.V. Kota Reddy said that “At VIT-AP University, we believe in the importance of acknowledging the sacrifices made by our unsung heroes—our veterans and their families. Through this initiative of “UNSUNG HEROES”, we aim to extend our heartfelt support and appreciation for their courage and dedication. As a responsible institution, we are committed to empowering the community by honouring those who have selflessly served the society and nation. This contribution is just a small token of our immense respect and admiration for their invaluable service.”

Speaking on the occasion R. Gunaseela – District Sainik welfare Officer –Guntur said “On behalf of the District Sainik Welfare, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to VIT-AP University for their generous donation of ₹2,50,000. This noble gesture not only reflects their deep respect for unsung heroes but also their commitment to supporting the families of veterans. VIT-AP’s contribution on this Republic Day is a shining example of how education and community can unite to honour the sacrifices of those who served our nation.”

Mr. Ramineni Durga Prasad

Despite experiencing severe discomfort, the VIT-AP University bus driver safely stopped the vehicle, ensuring the safety of 45 students on board. Unfortunately, he succumbed to a cardiac arrest shortly after reaching the university. A reward of ₹25,000 (Twenty-Five Thousand) was handed over to his family in recognition of his selfless act.

District Sainik Welfare – Guntur

A reward of ₹2,50,000 (Two lakhs Fifty Thousand) was presented to the board for their tireless efforts in the welfare of armed forces personnel.
