Pratapgarh: Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh witnessed major unrest after the suspicious death of a 21-year-old female employee who worked at the city’s private hospital. The deceased’s family has alleged that she was raped and murdered by the hospital staff, which led to a violent protest from the locals.
As per a report by Dainik Bhasker, the villagers vandalised the hospital, and when the police arrived to control the situation, the protestors started pelting stones at them. Twelve policemen, including the Circle Officer (CO), were injured in the altercation. To disperse the crowd, the police resorted to lathi charge. A heavy police force has since been deployed outside the hospital to maintain order.

Family Alleges Rape and Murder
In continuation of the report, the deceased woman was a resident of Bhadharganj and had been working at the hospital for over four years. Her disabled mother revealed that she was called by the hospital staff at 8:30 PM on Thursday, March 27, to inform her about her daughter’s demise. However, she was not allowed to see the body.
She alleged that later, the hospital staff tried to drop the body off at their house but were caught by the villagers, who noticed missing clothes and injury marks on the deceased. The family has reportedly accused six hospital employees, including doctors, of rape and murder and demanded strict action against them.
Altercation Between Police and Protestors
Angered by the lack of police action, around 250 villagers gheraoed the hospital on Friday, March 28, ransacking property and its premises. When the police tried to take charge of the situation, the protestors pelted stones at them.
As per the report, Raniganj CO Vinay Prabhakar Sahni and several other officers were injured in the violence. SP MLA RK Verma also demanded justice for the victim and called for strict action against the accused.
Meanwhile, authorities assured the victim’s family that a medical panel will conduct a videographed postmortem to gather more evidence. So far, the police have detained several suspects and the investigating is ongoing.
