Victoria to enter seven-day lockdown; Five reasons to leave home; Aged 40-49s can get vaccinated; WA imposes hard border, Queensland restrictions announced

Health officials say they have confirmed two new “likely” cases of rare blood clots in people who have had the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Medicine regulator the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) said the patients are both in Western Australia.

“The Department of Health is working closely with our counterparts in the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) to investigate the cases,” WA Health said in a statement.

“One is a woman, aged in her early 50s, who is currently in a stable condition at a Perth metropolitan hospital.

“The second is a male in his 70s, also from the Perth metropolitan area, who is recovering at home.”

The vaccine is recommended for people aged over 50 in Australia, with blood clots very rare.
