New Delhi: Hollywood biggie Val Kilmer, who is known for his roles in Top Gun, Batman Forever and ‘The Doors’, where he played Jim Morrison has breathed his last in Los Angeles on Tuesday. He was 65

Val Kilmer Death: Throat Cancer & More

According to The New York Times, Kilmer was diagnosed with Throat Cancer in 2014 and had recovered from the disease. He also underwent chemotherapy and two tracheotomies. The cause of his death, as told by his daughter Mercedes Kilmer happens to be pneumonia.

Moving from stage to movies, he rose to fame with comedy films, Top Secret! (1984) and Real Genius (1985), besides action film Top Gun (1986) and fantasy film Willow (1988). Kilmer portrayed Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone’s The Doors (1991) and became a huge star.

He was later seen in films including Tombstone (1993), True Romance (1993) and Heat (1995). His role of Batman in Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever (1995), and continued to star in films such as The Ghost and the Darkness (1996), The Saint (1997), The Prince of Egypt (1998), Alexander (2004), Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005), and The Snowman (2017) among others remained in news. 

In 2022, he reprised his role as Iceman in Top Gun: Maverick (2022), his final film performance before his death.

Val got married to actress Joanne Whalley, whom he met on the set of Willow in 1988. However, they got divorced in 1996. His survivors include their children, Mercedes and Jack.
