An English family has been stunned to discover an unexpected hitchhiker in a bag of bananas imported from half a world away.
“We then all stood in the kitchen looking at each other wondering what to do,” he told the BBC.
The Hispaniolan common tree frog had made a nearly 7000km journey from the Dominican Republic to England.
Despite the journey, the frog was “bright and alert” and in the care of the RSPCA.
Hispaniolan common tree frog are abundant in the Dominican Republic and Haiti, found in forests and open areas.
They are seemingly abundant enough that this is the second time a live frog has travelled from the island nation to the UK in a bag of bananas in a matter of months.
The previous frog was found in south London in June.
In 2020, a frog survived a trip from Colombia to Wales in a bunch of bananas.
Despite their delicate frames, frogs are known for their capacity to survive in trying circumstances.
