Two men have been caught dumping the body of a family member who died of Covid-19 into a river in India.
The culprits, Sanjay Kumar and Manoj Kumar, were caught by the police after a witness filmed them committing the act in the Kotwali region of Balrampur.
Two men are caught on video, one wearing a protective bodysuit, standing on a bridge and getting ready to throw their deceased relative into the Rapti River, reports the New York Post.
Police have revealed that the dead man is called Premnath but have not shared the man’s relationship to the two men.
Premnath was admitted to hospital with coronavirus on May 25.
He died on Saturday May 29, just four days later, while undergoing treatment for the virus, India Today has reported.
Authorities explained that Premnath’s body was given to his family for cremation.
However instead of cremating him, the two men decided to hurl his body into the river, according to the local paper.
This has happened just two weeks after more than 70 bodies were discovered in the Ganga River in India.
Authorities suspect they were also victims of Covid-19 although this has not been confirmed.
