Popular novelist Tammanna Beegara and young writer Dadapeer Jayman from Karnataka won the prestigious Kendra Sahitya Academy awards this year. Jayaman’s short story collections ‘Neelakurinji’ bagged an award and Beegara won Bala Sahitya Puraskar for his children’s novel ‘Bavali Guhe’
Jayaman, who hails from Bommanahalli in Ballari district, is also known for his translations. He earlier translated ‘Pardah and Polygomy’ which played a major role in making him notable in the literary world. Beegara, from the Uttara Kannada district, is well known to children’s book enthusiasts. Many noted personalities from Karnataka have sent their accolades to both winners.
The awards will likely be conferred to them in December at an event in New Delhi. A prize money of ₹50,000 will also be presented to the winners at the award ceremony.
The Sahitya Academy Awards are usually conferred to people who contribute in the field of literacy and writers from 24 Indian languages compete every year to grab the award. For the first time, the Sahitya Academy Awards were presented in 1954.

Maharashtra woman on way to Delhi gang-raped near Jaipur railway station
A 35-year-old woman was allegedly gang raped near the Jaipur railway yard late on Wednesday evening, police said. A man approached her on the pretext of getting her reservation on the train and took her to an isolated place near the rail yard, where three or four persons were present. The rape survivor is a resident of Maharashtra and got married six months with a resident of Nayla in Jaipur.

A 0.88-acre mine that may cost Soren CM’s job
The trouble for Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren, who faces disqualification from the state Assembly membership following a recommendation from the Election Commission of India, began on February 10, when Soren’s predecessor and BJP vice-president Raghubar Das alleged at a press conference that the CM, who also holds the mining and environment portfolio, had taken a stone chips mining lease in his name. The chief minister then applied for environmental clearance on September 9, 2021.

CM launches 42 new electric buses for Lucknow, Kanpur
LUCKNOW Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday flagged off 42 new electric buses for Lucknow and Kanpur, saying a helicopter service would also soon be launched from Lucknow to Naimisharanya, a pilgrimage site in Sitapur district (92 km from the state capital). Thirty-four of these buses will run on different routes in the state capital and the remaining are for Kanpur. The ancient town is sacred for the Hindus.
