Two bodies recovered from rubble of Queensland shed following fire believed to be father and daughter

The two bodies found in a Queensland shed burned to the ground yesterday have been identified.

Detectives are still investigating the deaths of the father and daughter but say there is nothing at this stage to suggest foul play.

It wasn’t until just on nightfall the worst fears were confirmed.

“There was discovery made of, we believe, two people,” Gary Pettiford from Queensland Police said.

“Namely a 54-year-old male and a 10-year-old female child.”

While they’re yet to be formally identified, it’s believed those killed were Todd Mooney and his daughter Kirra.

Todd, the local baker, was due to marry his long term partner at the property next week. Today, their shop remained closed.

More than 24 hours after the fire started, what remains of the shed is still smoking and the parts left standing remain structurally unsound, making the investigation incredibly difficult.

“We treat incidents like this as a crime scene [but] that’s not to say that anything untoward actually happened,” Pettiford said.

Scientific officers remained on scene but it’s expected to be several days before detectives have any solid idea of what happened and why the father and daughter could not make it out.
