Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai said that the truth about Vokkaliga chieftans Uri Gowda and Nanje Gowda will come out after research. He also said that a prominent seer calling for a restraint over the controversy is not a setback to the party.
Speaking about the Uri Gowda and Nanje Gowda controversy, Basavaraj Bommai said, “When research happens and the day truth comes out, we will get victory. Several historical truths have been suppressed and history has been distorted across the country after independence, including Karnataka. It is known to everyone as to who played an important role in it then. If the truth is told now, they are unable to digest it.”

Nirmalanandanatha Mahaswamiji, the chief pontiff of the influential Sri Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthana Math, on Monday cited the lack of historical evidence to the existence of the two Gowdas and called for putting an end to the issue.
Union minister Shoba Karandlaje had said that eminent Kannada writer D Javaregowda’s research book Suvarna Mandya has references to Vokkaliga chieftains, which she relied upon as evidence proving the existence of the two characters.
The issue came to the fore during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Karnataka to inaugurate the Mysuru-Bengaluru highway recently, when four arches were put up on the route. One of them was named after Kempe Gowda, the second one after Krishnaraja Wodeyar, the third after Sir M Visvesvaraya, and the fourth arch had the names of Uri Gowda and Nanje Gowda. However, the arch was removed after the Opposition threatened to protest.
