The Pune city police on Monday arrested three men for allegedly murdering a senior citizen at Keshav Nagar in Mundhwa.

Police said the accused were quarrelling among themselves on a public road near the home of Ravindra Gaikwad (60) at Shrikrupa Society on Sunday afternoon and that Gaikwad and his employee S S Jaiswar asked them to stop quarrelling and leave the place.

But the trio got angry, left the spot and came back sometime later and allegedly attacked Gaikwad with a sharp weapon at around 3.30pm. They fled from the spot after the incident. Family members took Gaikwad to a hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.

Police said the accused—Sagar Jawale, Akash Jawale and Sahil Sutar—were all around 20 years old and residents of Manjari. “We arrested the three accused persons today in the early hours. We are seeking their custody from the court for further investigation,” said inspector Pradip Kakade of the Mundhwa police station.

The accused have been booked under sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code and sections of the Arms Act.

Senior police inspector Ajit Lakade is investigating the case.

Gaikwad used to run a cow and buffalo shed near his home.
