The daughter-in-law of Tory grandee Lord Ashcroft remained in “one of the world’s toughest prisons” on Wednesday night after being charged with manslaughter by negligence over the death of a top Belize cop.

Jasmine Hartin was told her first chance of bail would be June 9 after lawyers for the socialite appeared before the Central American country’s Supreme Court.

She is currently been held in the notorious Belize Central Prison in Hattieville – as far removed as the lifestyle her billionaire family enjoy.

Justice Herbert Lord told her lawyers she would be detained until next Wednesday at the very least after the country’s director of public prosecutions objected to her bail arguing she is a flight risk.

The Justice requested both sides to make written submissions accompanied by case law before the next hearing.
Hartin was previously denied bail at the Magistrate Court in San Pedro on Monday.

Already locals have accused authorities of giving Mrs Ashcroft favourable treatment pointing out the rushed nature of Wednesday’s hearing.

Normally such bail appeals take place on Fridays.

Hartin’s bid for freedom came as details of the criminal complaint against her emerged.

It told how the socialite was found with blood on her hands after the shooting of San Pedro Superintendent Henry Jemmott with a 9mm round.

According to the document the pair were “socialising” at the end of pier when security heard a “loud bang” and raced to the scene at 12:45am on Friday.

There they found Hartin “covered in red substance as that of blood” as Jemmott’s lifeless body floated on his back 30ft from the shore.

It adds officers retrieved “(1) Glock 17 Pistol …. Along with (1) magazine containing (1) live 9mm round S&B (1) live 9mm rounds S&B found on the dock and (1) Expended shell S&B found inside the barrel of the pistol.”
