RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) naming BJP vice-president Raman Singh and party national spokesman Sambit Parta on a complaint that they have circulated an alleged ‘toolkit’ using a fake letterhead of the Congress party.
After a preliminary investigation into a complaint lodged by the state youth Congress and National Students Union (I), Civil Line police in the state capital lodged an FIR against both the BJP leaders under IPC section 504 for Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace, 505 for circulating any statement, rumour or report or statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill will between classes and IPC 469 for forgery for the purpose of harming reputation and section 188 for disobedience of order duly promulgated by a public servant.
The complainants, state NSU(I) president Akash Sharma and youth Congress leader Koko Padhi, had alleged that both the BJP leaders have circulated a fake document, which they claimed as Congress ‘toolkit’ to defame Prime Minister Narendra Modi, through their official twitter handles. They alleged that the document was prepared on forged letterheads of the Congress party and it was circulated to tarnish the reputation of Congress and its frontal organisations.
Besides many other BJP leaders, former chief minster Raman Singh had attached a document with his tweet saying that he was ashamed of ‘the below the belt politics’ being played the Congress during the CoVID crisis.
The ruling BJP at the centre accused the Congress party of creating a ‘toolkit’ that aims to tarnish the image of the country and Prime Minister Narendra Modi by calling the new strain of coronavirus as “India strain” or the “Modi strain”.
Meanwhile, Congress has denied making any such ‘toolkit’ and accused the BJP of creating a ‘fake toolkit’. The party said that its research wing made a toolkit on the Central Vista Project which the BJP is ‘wrongly using for propaganda.’ On Wednesday, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra said that toolkit properties reveal that it was created by a person who works for Congress leader Rajeev Gowda, in-charge of Congress party’s Research Wing.
The Congress has maintained that its letterheads were forged to prepare the alleged toolkit and the party had filed complaints in Delhi seeking an FIR against BJP leaders, who have circulated the document. Besides, certain fact-checking websites have also claimed that the CoVID toolkit attributed to the Congress was created on forged letterhead.
