Tokyo reports 351 new COVID-19 cases as Okinawa confirms 183 infections

Tokyo confirmed 351 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday as hard-hit Okinawa Prefecture tallied 183 new infections.

Infections in Okinawa remain near its fourth-wave peak. The southernmost prefecture was the latest region to join the current state of emergency.

TokyoтАЩs average daily tally of new cases in the week to Sunday stood at 426.4, compared with 558.6 a week before.

The number of severely ill patients in Tokyo under the metropolitan governmentтАЩs criteria stood at 60, down two from the previous day.

On Saturday, Japan confirmed 2,652 new cases, a decrease of 939 from a week before and the third straight day below 3,000. The country had 64 new COVID-19 deaths, while the number of patients with severe symptoms fell by 41 from Friday to 1,157.
