Toddler accidentally orders almost £2,000 worth of SpongeBob SquarePants lollipops from Amazon – World News
A toddler broke his mum’s bank account by accidentally spending nearly £2,000 when he ordered 918 SpongeBob SquarePants lollipops from Amazon.
Four-year-old Noah is a huge fan of the character who lives in a pineapple under the sea, so much so that he ordered 51 cases of lollipops made to look like the cartoon star.
His mum, Jennifer Bryant, shared news of the unexpected purchase on Instagram, saying that stuck with the melting lollipops because of the seller’s ‘no returns’ policy.
But thankfully a friend decided to help and set up a GoFundMe page for Jennifer, who is a student and has two other children, and strangers around the world soon chipped in and helped clear the debt.
Noah’s extravagant purchase cost Jennifer, from New York £1,860.52 ($2,618.85), but the fundraising page managed to pull in a whopping £16,823.46 ($23,680).
Jennifer’s initial post on Instagram read: “Noah loves SpongeBob soooo much that he managed to purchase $2,618.85 worth of SpongeBob popsicles from Amazon and had it sent to his Auntie’s house.
“That equals to 51 cases, 918 popsicles. Did I mention the no return policy?”
The post was spotted by Katie Schloss, who studies with Jennifer, who knew the mum-of-three would struggle to pay for the purchase.
Katie decided to help, so set up the GoFundMe page to help Jennifer pay for the lollipops.
The page reads: “Meet four-year-old Noah from Brooklyn, NY, who loves @spongebob sooo much that he managed to purchase $2,618.85 worth of SpongeBob popsicles from Amazon and had them sent to his Auntie’s house.
“In case you are wondering, that’s 51 cases, containing 918 popsicles.
“As truly adorable as this story is, Jennifer Bryant, Noah’s mom, is a social work student at NYU (we took Policy I together) and simply cannot afford this.
“Amazon will not take back the popsicles, and Ms. Bryant, mom to 3 boys, doesn’t know how she’s going to be able to pay this off, in addition to student loans and all of her family’s other expenses.”
Schloss also says that any extra money raised will go towards Noah’s education.
His family is currently in the process of trying to get him enrolled in Learning Spring School, a school for children on the autism spectrum.
Anyone wishing to donate should visit the GoFundMe page, which is still active, here.
