The i30N Santa Fe (TM), Kona N (OS), i30N Sedan (CN7) and Sonata N-Line vehicles sold between 2020 and 2022 are being recalled, Hyundai Australia said.
The recall affects a total of 7237 vehicles.
“Due to a programming issue, the “fail-safe” driving mode may not respond as intended when certain transmission faults are detected,” the Department of Transport said.
“Under certain driving conditions the vehicle fail-safe mode may activate resulting in reduced acceleration followed by a loss of motive power.”
Such a power failure at high speed could increase the risk of a crash, the department said.
Owners of affected vehicles should contact their preferred Hyundai dealer to have the work carried out as soon as possible at no cost.
