This is the end for the Pearsons.
тАЬThis Is UsтАЭ,┬аNBCтАЩs top-rated family drama,┬аwill┬аend after the upcoming sixth season, according to multiple┬аreports.┬аNBC declined to comment.
According to┬аThe Hollywood Reporter,┬аwho was first to report the news, an official announcement of тАЬThis Is UsтАЭтАШ final season likely will come Friday when NBC unveils its official 2021-22 television schedule.
News of the award-winning┬аseriesтАЩ end┬аis not a surprising development, considering speculation over its future has ramped up in recent seasons following┬аits three-season pickup┬аin May 2019 as creator Dan Fogelman, the writers and various cast members┬аhave┬аhinted at a six-year plan for the series.
As recently as March, series star┬аMilo Ventimiglia discussed the final episodes of тАЬThis Is UsтАЭ with ETтАЩs Lauren Zima.
тАЬWhen we get to that┬аand the whole thing has been uncovered [and]┬аdiscovered, we know what the last couple episodes are and IтАЩll say that the last couple episodes тАФ itтАЩs not going to be about the last moment, it really isnтАЩt about the last moment,тАЭ he said.┬атАЬIt may be something that is beyond anything that anyone could ever dream and it may be so simple that every single human on Earth can relate to. But I know the last several episodes, theyтАЩre gonna be a ride so when youтАЩve seen them all weтАЩll have a conversation and weтАЩll go from there.тАЭ
During a February 2019 appearance on тАЬThe┬аEllen DeGeneres ShowтАЭ, Ventimiglia added fuel to the fire that the series was┬аpossibly ending after┬аseason 6, following Fogelman and co-showrunner Isaac Aptaker suggesting in a┬аDeadline interview that they were planning to wrap the show up тАЬabout three seasons in the future.тАЭ (A season 3 episode of тАЬThis Is UsтАЭ even featured a piece of dialogue echoing that sentiment when one of the characters said weтАЩre тАЬonly midway through the story.тАЭ)
тАЬAt least the audience knows, the fans know, theyтАЩre going to get three more seasons, which is nice we can commit,тАЭ Ventimiglia added. тАЬItтАЩs not like, will it be on? WonтАЩt it be on? But then beyond that, yeah, maybe there will be more. I donтАЩt know.тАЭ

Brown, Justin Hartley, Chrissy Metz and Susan Kelechi Watson, the hour-long family drama debuted in 2016 to near universal acclaim and has become an awards darling, collecting Emmy, Golden Globe, SAG Awards, CriticsтАЩ Choice, NAACP Image Award and AFI Program of the Year honours. It was also nominated for a Peabody Award in 2017.
