NEW DELHI: The government on Friday said that India can prevent the third wave of Covid-19 if strong measures are taken and guidelines are effectively implemented at the state and local levels.
“If we take strong measures, the third wave may not happen in all the places or indeed anywhere at all. It depends on how effectively the guidance is implemented at the local level, in the states, in districts and in the cities everywhere,” principal scientific advisor K VijayRaghavan said at a media briefing.
The remarks come just two days after he said that a third wave of the virus is “inevitable” in India and the country needs to be prepared for it in advance.
“Phase three is inevitable given the higher levels of circulating virus, but it is not clear on what time-scale this phase three will occur. We should be prepared for new waves,” he had said.
India is currently witnessing a devastating second wave of Covid, which pushed the daily infection numbers to above 4.14 lakh on Friday while the death toll rose by nearly 4,000.
In his earlier remarks, VijayRaghavan had said that the virus has adopted a тАЬhit and run lifestyleтАЭ.
