The world sees India as a reliable partner and go to place to do business: Iceland permanent Secretary of State | India News
On a visit to India as a part of ongoing G20 meetings, speaking exclusively with ToI, he said certain aspects that make India the focus of global businesses are a healthy economy, a level playing field where you can go to courts if you have a problem and freedom of choice that goes hand in hand with democracy.
Eyjólfsson added India and Iceland have been working together in fisheries in preservation of the seas and are partners in fighting pollution in oceans. He said India and Iceland can have a huge partnership in geo thermal energy and the two countries already have projects between the two countries in Himachal Pradesh and Leh that are helping locals from cooling apples to heating houses and schools using geo thermal energy.
He says Iceland is a strong advocate of geo thermal energy and being one of the earliest exponents of it, the country would want a strong partnership with India in the sector. He says this may not be the solution to fighting global pollution but is certainly a good way to reduce it. He hopes free trade agreement between the two countries is signed at the earliest and termed his recent meeting with commerce minister Piyush Goyal as very positive.
Talking about abundance of tech talent in India, Eyjólfsson said, Iceland also need highly skilled workforce and require educated experts in the fields of IT and expert engineers. “We have a flourishing gaming industry in Iceland where we need top notch experts that India has in abundance,” he added.
Affirming that presidency of the G20 has made the world take note of how efficiently India has managed important meetings. He said the India’s term was already a ‘success story’ as many important decisions have already been taken and India has shown its leadership and resilience in hosting and conducting meetings.
“The world saw India as a reliable partner and go to place to do business with,” Eyjólfsson affirmed.
