Mumbai, August 31: The Bhiwandi police recently arrested a man for allegedly raping and giving triple talaq to a woman in the city. The accused, identified as Raju alias Siraj Qureshi, a resident of Bhiwandi, was arrested after a woman lodged a complaint against him. Police officials said Raju has been married for nearly ten years and has four children. The incident occurred after a woman lodged an FIR against the accused.

In her complaint, the woman claimed that in 2012, she married a man from Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh under Hindu customs. The woman also stated that she has a seven-year-old daughter from the union, reports the Hindustan Times. The woman also said that after six years of their wedding, she separated from her husband in 2018. A year later, the woman reportedly received a friend request from the accused through social media. The accused had identified himself as Raju. The two connected over social media. The accused told the woman he owned a hotel in the Gaibi Nagar area of Bhiwandi and even said he was unmarried. The accused proposed marriage to the woman and assured her of taking care of her and her daughter.

In 2020, the accused took the woman to a lodge in Bhiwandi and allegedly raped her. In January end, the accused married the woman as per Hindu traditions. However, the victim was taken aback when the accused revealed that he was Siraj Qureshi and not Raju. The accused even asked the woman to convert to Islam to live with him. However, the woman was in for another shock when the accused gave her triple talaq. He told the woman that he was married and also had four children. The accused also said he would lose his share of ancestral property if their relationship continued. Following this, the woman approached cops and filed a case against Qureshi.
