NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard has warned that the Delta variant of COVID-19 in Sydney has made social distancing more necessary than ever.
“Last year, we talked about this particular virus when it first came to our shores as being dangerous but it wasn’t a long jumper and a high jumper,” he said.
“We talked about the necessity for the 1.5 metre social distancing. That is still crucial. We also need to recognise that this Delta variant, the Delta variant of the COVID virus, is actually a gold-medallist that comes to jumping from one person to another.
“It is a long jumper. Take it very, very seriously.”
Mr Hazzard also called on businesses and venues to enforce QR code check-ins, saying they were vital for contact tracers.
Ms Berejiklian said that the NSW government was moving towards making QR code check-ins mandatory for all retail outlets.
