Two soccer fans have suffered third-degree burns after being struck by a flare at Melbourne’s Federation Square during the Socceroo’s match with Argentina on Sunday morning.

Sam, 19, told Nine’s radio station 3AW that his “skin was bubbling” after being struck on the arm by the flare after Australia scored a goal.

“It’s not ideal,” Sam said.

“It looked gross. My arm was on fire.”

Sam said his friend was also injured by a flare.

“He copped a flare to the side of his face, and his hands then it ricocheted off the knee,” Sam said.

Both men were taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries.

He also condemned the use of flares during the World Cup celebrations.

“I definitely has put me off Fed Square soccer events I don’t think I’ll be there, it’s a lot safer in my lounge room,” he said.
