Teenage boy arrested after ‘firing gun’ in Atlantis Beach Baptist College in Two Rocks carpark

A teenage boy has been arrested after he allegedly fired a gun in the carpark of a Perth school, plunging it into lockdown.

Police were called to Atlantis Beach Baptist College in Two Rocks, in the city’s outer northern suburbs, about 11.50am, police said.

It’s understood the 15-year-old fired a number of shots in the carpark of the school, also forcing a nearby daycare and medical facility into lockdown.

“At this stage we have the school in lockdown, (and) we have a person in custody,” Inspector Geoff DeSanges from WA Police said.

“I want to reassure the parents and the community that we have a significant number of police resources on-site, and we’re dealing with the situation.

“We do not have any reports at this stage of anyone being injured.”

Witnesses reported hearing three shots, forcing students to hide under their desks.

“We were playing on our laptops doing some work and I heard, like a big bang,” one student told 9News.

“Then my teacher said, ‘Get under your desks’.

“She locked the door and closed the windows and then we were under there for quite a lot of time.

“Then we heard police sirens, then we heard shouting … we heard footsteps going on the deck and that’s when it really got me scared.”

One parent said he heard there was “something happening at the school” where his daughter attends and came to see.

Parents are lining up at the school to collect their children.

Police have asked the public to give them space as the investigation unfolds.
