NEW DELHI: While stressing on the need for central armed police forces (CAPFs) to maintain utmost vigilance on the country’s borders to foil attempts at infiltration and smuggling of drugs and arms, particularly through drones, home minister Amit Shah at the same time underlined the need to develop good contact and communication with civilians residing in border villages as they can help strengthen border security.
Presiding over a ‘chintan shivir’ or introspection session of IPS officers posted in the CAPFs and National Security Guard here on Monday, Shah referred to the Vibrant Village Programme (VVP) started under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to develop and create jobs in border areas, to highlight how the paramilitary forces can contribute to the government’s outreach to border residents. He said all CAPFs should promote the purchase of local products, which would increase employment opportunities in border areas and stop outmigration.
Appreciating the role of central forces in strengthening law and order, internal security, conducting elections, disaster relief and protection of strategic monuments and vital installations, Shah said the Modi government was committed to ensuring that the welfare of CAPF personnel remains a top priority.
The minister directed that all the constructed houses of CAPFs be allotted by November this year and allotment of all future houses ensured through e-Awas portal in two months. He asked for filling up of all non-general duty posts in CAPFs and directed that bottlenecks in the recruitment process be removed within a month.
