New Delhi: Amid the controversy over the ASI protected tomb of Aurangzeb in Maharashtra’s Khultabad, Union culture minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said symbols of colonial heritage or invaders from the past that are an insult to India’s heritage and culture would be reviewed and may be removed from the list of protected monuments.
He refused to comment on Aurangzeb’s tomb and said he was simply following the law with ASI protecting all notified monuments. Asked what the govt planned to do to address such issues, Shekhawat cited the example of the pedestal of the statue of John Nicholson in Delhi that was de-notified by the ministry last year.
