An aerospace company has unveiled designs for a stunning flying electric car which it aims to have airborne within 50 years.
Named the Pulse Concept, the self-flying vehicle is a vision of seamless air and ground travel, and has been created by Brazilian plane firm Embraer.
Although it takes into consideration what technology could look like in the future, it is partly inspired by the first concept car, Harley Earl’s Buick Y-Job from 1939.
That vehicle – dubbed the car of the future – featured fanciful ideas such as hidden headlights, flush door handles, a convertible top concealed by a metal deck, and electrically operated windows.

Embraer’s flying car boasts a glass pod which, attached to swooping wings and tail, can take off and land vertically.
When on the ground, the pod is transferred to a wheeled vehicle, creating a seamless transportation loop by moving owners from air to ground without them having to leave the plush capsule.
The pod, which relies on future advances in “smart” glass technology and see-through alloy metals, will allow an extraordinary 360-degree view.

Embraer’s designers came up with the Pulse – aimed at high-flying business executives and the wealthy – to mark the 50th anniversary of the company, which sells well-appointed private and commercial planes.
The Pulse’s introduction date also depends on the improvement of solid state batteries.
The four propellers will be powered by four electric motors.
An Embraer spokesman said: “The concept allows travel from destination to destination – not just airport to airport – from the comfort and security of the user’s own personal space.”
Elite Traveller magazine said: “As well as revolutionising the way we travel, the Embraer Pulse Concept would completely change the experience, too.
“The pod is transparent and the views as you descend on New York, Dubai, Monaco or London would be incredible.
“If passengers grow tired of those views, the glass will be interactive, offering them the chance to do work, watch movies or make a video call.”
