The Maha Kumbh, one of the world’s largest religious gatherings, is taking place in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, in 2025. This grand event, held every 12 years, sees millions of devotees gather to take a sacred dip in the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers. Among the attendees this year is Laurene Powell Jobs, the widow of late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.

Laurene falls sick

Laurene Powell Jobs arrived at the Kumbh Mela to experience this rare celestial event that occurs once in 144 years. Spiritual leader Swami Kailashanand Giri, who has been hosting her at his shivir (camp), revealed to ANI that she has embraced the spiritual ambiance and simplicity of the festival. Giri affectionately named her ‘Kamala.’ Despite developing minor allergies, she participated in rituals and plans to take a holy dip at the Sangam.

At the first Amrit Snan, around 3-4 crore devotees took a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam. Sadhus from 13 akhadas (religious orders) performed ceremonial dips in a specific sequence. These akhadas are divided into three main groups: Sanyasi (Shaivite), Bairagi (Vaishnav), and Udaseen. Each akhada represents unique traditions and contributes to the vibrant cultural tapestry of the Kumbh Mela.
