The 20-year-old was arrested at a home in Warrawong today and was refused bail in court.
The Dragons five-eighth has been charged with reckless grievous bodily harm in company, destroying or damaging property, and stalk/intimidate, after a man was allegedly seriously assaulted on November 15.
NSW Police allege a 39-year-old man was working at a property when he was confronted by a 46-year-old man and two others – one of whom was Amone – who were armed with hammers.
“The men armed with hammers damaged the younger man’s car, while he climbed onto the roof of the property and called police,” NSW Police said in a statement.
“The three men followed him onto the roof, before the 39-year-old man was allegedly pushed, causing him to fall two metres.
“The 39-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Wollongong Hospital with injuries to his wrists, arms and hip.”
St George Illawarra confirmed the charges in a statement.
“Dragons player Talatau Amone has been charged in relation to an alleged incident earlier this year,” the statement said.
“The club has notified the NRL integrity unit.
“As this is a legal matter the club will be making no further comment.”
Amone appeared in court on Thursday where he was refused bail.
The matter has been adjourned and he is due to face Wollongong Local Court on Friday.
Police are searching for a third person, who remains unidentified, after he fled on foot.
“He is described as Caucasian in appearance, about 175cm-180cm tall and of medium build,” NSW Police said in a statement.
“He was wearing grey shorts with black and white trim and white and black shoes.”
