South Coogee clifftop castle of former Macquarie exec Laurie Macri to smash suburb record

This castle-like home on Bunya Pde in South Coogee is out of this world.

Fit for a King or Queen, a legendary eastern suburbs “castle” with jaw-dropping ocean views, an infinity pool and epic interiors has come up for sale.

The private fortress on Bunya Pde in South Coogee also has sandstone battlements, a gym, rooftop terrace and a wine cellar.

The spectacular residence was designed with no expense spared by Renato D’Ettorre in the 1990s.

Impressive interiors are found inside.

It has been owned for the past 16 years by former Macquarie Bank executive director Laurie Macri and his wife Christine.

They purchased the property from former 2GB owner and ad guru John Singleton in 2005 for $7.5m, according to CoreLogic.

Listed with Ballard Property’s Clint Ballard and James Ball, it is now being marketed with a $15.5m-$17m guide.

Almost every room has prized ocean views.

A sale within this range would be more than enough to eclipse the $10.55m South Coogee suburb record set last year by a rundown clifftop house at 1 Wolseley Road.

The residence built from sandstone, concrete, steel and plenty of glass features five bedrooms with jaw-dropping ocean views.

Described as one of the most private oceanfront properties in the eastern suburbs, all the rooms face away from the street towards the ocean.

The designer bathrooms are something.

There is a high-end kitchen with Gaggenau appliances, a home office, two wet bars and five designer bathrooms.

Other highlights include a jacuzzi, pool viewing window, rumpus room, integrated sound system, ducted airconditioning and hydronic heating.

Mr Ballard said it was hard to go past the Bunya Pde home for buyers after an “exceptional coastal home”.

The high-end kitchen has a butler’s pantry.

The rooftop terrace is one of the many entertaining spaces.

“The connection between the house and water is like being on a boat,” he said.

The real estate agent added interest had already been strong from buyers including from a number of expats looking to return home to Australia.

Outside there are multiple entertaining areas including a rooftop terrace capturing 360-degree-views, an infinity pool and a four car garage.

The property also won an RAIA NSW Commendation Award for its unique design.
