BENGALURU: A Pocso court on Friday held a 25-year-old daily-wage worker guilty of sodomising and murdering a one-and-a-half-year-old boy in September 2015 and awarded him death sentence, saying the offence was “of diabolic nature”.
Judge KN Roopa awarded death sentence to V Murthy alias Hallujja for murder and unnatural offence under IPC and the Pocso Act, respectively. Besides, the court slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 on Murthy, who had smashed the infant with a 40kg stone and tried to burn the body in a bid to hide the victim’s identity.
The crime was committed on September 12, 2015, when the child’s father left the infant in Murthy’s care for some time.
