Siddhivinayak Temple Unveils Maghi Utsav Schedule; Shankar Mahadevan, Shivmani To Perform

Siddhivinayak Temple has released the schedule for cultural and religious programmes for the annual Maghi Utsav that will be held at the temple between January 30 and February 4.

Among the cultural events planned during the festival are performances by singer Shankar Mahadevan and percussionist Shivmani on January 30. There will be a kirtan programme by Siddhesh Manerkar on February 1 which is Ganesh Janmadivas.In the evening, there will be a shobha yatra covering S K Bole Marg, Gokhale Road (South), Portuguese Church, Jakhadevi Chowk, Sayani Road, Khed Galli, Shankar Ghanekar Road, and Annasaheb Marathe Road.

The procession will pass through important temples in the area, including the Shankar Mandir near the Portuguese Church, Vitthal Rakhumai Temple, Jakadevi Temple, Hanuman Mandir, and Prabhadevi Temple.

Maghi Ganesh Jayanti, or Magh Vinayak Chaturthi, is celebrated annually on the Chaturthi Tithi of the Shukla Paksha in the Hindu month of Magh. The day is observed as the birthday of Lord Ganesha. In 2025, the festival falls on February 1, with the tithi starting on  February 1 at 1.08 am and ending on February 2, at 9.14 am.

The festival is observed by devotees in a more personal way compared to the community celebrations during Ganesh Chaturthi later in the year.

The festival at Siddhivinayak temple will conclude on February 4 with a havan for purnahuti which is a ritual that ends the religious ceremonies.

The temple also announced a ban on plastic bags in the premises. The temple administration said it will make it compulsory for pilgrims to carry offerings in paper bags. Facilities to distribute paper pouches will be organised shortly.
