Ugadi, which is being celebrated across the state with much pomp and gusto, marks the beginning of a new year. For actor Shanvi Srivastava, who began celebrating the festival after she moved to Bengaluru, Ugadi is about spending quality time with family and bingeing on festive specials.
Talking about her plans this year, Srivastava tells us, тАЬThe festival is all about food and colours, so my family and I dress grandly; I usually opt for a saree. We spend the day together, following all the traditions, and we end the day with a hearty meal.тАЭ
A sucker for all things sweet, Srivastava ensures that she makes the most of the festivities and gorges on the special dishes made for the day. тАЬI canтАЩt get enough of the sweets [that are made] during festivals!тАЭ she exclaims, adding, тАЬI forget IтАЩm an actor and binge! We always make sure we prepare and eat holige or puran poli.тАЭ
For the 29-year-old, her fondest memories of the festival are spending time in the kitchen with her mother while she prepares a feast for the day. тАЬEvery year, my mother gives us several different tasks to help her prepare the festive meal. Then, she rates the work we do. Not only does the process become easier, we also get to spend quality time with each other. My most memorable moment from a previous Ugadi celebration is when my mum gave me an eight out of 10! IтАЩm looking forward to topping that score this year,тАЭ shares the actor, who has films including Masterpiece (2015) and Tarak (2017) to her credit.
Ready to make a fresh start this new year, Srivastava believes Ugadi is the perfect time to plan ahead. тАЬThe day not only marks the beginning of a year, but also the end of a year. On this day, one should forget all the lows and negativity from the past year and focus on what the next year holds for them. The new year brings in new opportunities, thatтАЩs what should be celebrated,тАЭ she signs off.
