A secondary school teacher has gone on trial accused of killing a man and eating him for sexual gratification.

The maths and chemistry teacher, who has only been identified in the German media as Stefan R under the nation’s strict privacy laws, was in court today after allegedly killing a powerline technician and ate parts of the body.

Stefan R, 41, allegedly met the 43-year-old victim, who has only been identified as Stefan T, on a dating website last year.

He is accused of killing Stefan T, cutting the body up into pieces and them dumping it over multiple locations across Berlin.

The suspect sat upright and motionless in the dock as the indictment against him was read out in a Berlin regional court.

Stefan R’s legal team told the could he will not be commenting on the allegations against him at this time.

The prosecution said it will argue there was a “sadistic-cannibalistic sexual motivation for the crime” after the suspect allegedly ate parts of the corpse.

Stefan T’s flatmates reported him missing when he failed to return after leaving last September shortly before midnight.

Two months after the victim was reported missing, the bone of a human leg was found by a dog walker in a wooded area in a Berlin suburb.

Forensic tests confirmed the remains belonged to Stefan T.

This development escalated the case from a missing person into a murder investigation.

Sniffer dogs were able to find more bones throughout the city.

Prosecutors today alleged that there was no evidence Stefan T had “consented” to his killing.

Police allege that internet searches showed Stefan R had expressed an interest in cannibalism and had looked up cannibalism-linked forums.

Other internet searches show the two met on an online dating portal, police said.

Prosecutors claim saws and knives were found at the defendant’s apartment as well as traces of blood and several kilograms of a chemical.

The trial is expected to last until mid-October.

The Berlin murder trial comes about two decades after an infamous cannibal case in Germany.

The case, which became known as the “Cannibal of Rotenburg”, saw a computer technician get sentenced to life imprisonment after partially eating a man after he had advertised online for someone ready for “slaughter and consumption.”

Years later, a man in Berlin told an internet forum he was looking for someone ready to “make himself available as a feast”.

He later went on trial for murder after he dismembered, but didn’t ultimately eat, his sexual partner.
