NEW DELHI: Expressing deep displeasure over Centre not clearing the names recommended by its collegium for appointment of judges, the Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to the law ministry seeking explanation for the delay.
The SC said that for the time being it is resisting issuing a contempt notice, instead issuing a simple notice on a contempt petition filed against the law ministry.
Issuing the notice to the law secretary, the SC said that the Centre keeping the names, recommended for the appointment of judges in the high courts and Supreme Court, pending and not clearing them is not “acceptable”.
The SC said that there are 68 names which are yet to be cleared by the Centre for appointment, adding that one of them even died recently.
