Rohtas temple head priest killed, eyes gouged out: Police

SASARAM: A 90-year-old head priest of a temple found in a pool of blood in Rohtas district, his eyes gouged out and his body mutilated, died before he could be rushed to hospital for treatment, police said on Thursday.

Police said the priest, identified as Yadu Baba alias Yaduvansh Chaudhary, was found injured at a Thakurbari near Hanuman temple at Sanjhauli in Rohtas district, on Thursday morning. A police officer said the unidentified assailants probably attacked the priest late in the night and left him for dead. But he survived the night.

When the door to the premises was not opened till late in the morning, villagers jumped over the wall to look for the priest and found him lying unconscious.

The Sanjhauli police brought the mahant to the local primary health centre where doctors declared him dead. The body was sent to Sasaram for autopsy.

The priest’s relatives in Bikramganj village told the police that he had left home decades earlier and did not have enmity with anyone.

Sub divisional police officer Shashi Bhushan Singh said a murder case has been registered and local officers told to conduct a thorough investigation.
