Skywatchers across the northern hemisphere had the chance to see a partial eclipse of the sun on June 10. WhatтАЩs called an тАЬannular eclipseтАЭ occurs, NASA said, when the moon тАЬis far enough away from Earth that [it] appears smaller than the sun in the sky.тАЭ This creates what looks like тАЬa ring of fireтАЭ around the moon at more northern latitudes. Those in Canada, Greenland, and northern Russia would be best placed to see this effect.
