JAMMU: A retired superintendent of police has been arrested under the Official Secrets Act for publishing ‘sensitive information’ in his book released recently in Jammu, officials said on Saturday.
Mohammad Aslam Sheikh’s book contains FIR copies besides other sensitive information, officials said. He was arrested from his residence at Gandhi Nagar on Friday.
Sheikh had joined police as assistant sub-inspector in 1986.He retired last year.
The Official Secrets Act states that if a person, entrusted with any document or information relating to civil affairs of the state, communicates it to others in breach of confidence, he shall face imprisonment for up to one year, or fined, or both.
The matter is under investigation, police said.
