A ‘real-life Sleeping Beauty’ has an extremely rare medical condition where she can sleep for weeks without being woken up.

Siti Raisa Miranda had her first symptoms back in 2017 when she slept for 13 days straight at her home in Banjarmasin, Indonesia.

Her worried parents rushed her to the hospital where medics diagnosed her with Kleine-Levin Syndrome (KLS) that affects one in a million people.

After learning of her condition her parents would take Siti to the hospital where she would sleep for at least a week.

Her father Mulyadi said this week that his daughter, now 17, would not wake up no matter what they did so they always take her to the medics whenever she had episodes.

He said: “We don’t know how to make sure she’s fine whenever she falls asleep so we take her to the doctor.

“Whenever she sleeps longer than a week she will suffer from convulsions, so we really need the hospital’s help during those times.”

Mulyadi added that her daughter was healthy despite her condition.

He said: “After being examined at the hospital her laboratory results showed that her body was fine.

“She just falls asleep for longer periods.

“There was no medicine that she could take to wake her up so we wait for her to get out of her long slumber and take her home.”

There is no cure for KLS but it can be managed by taking stimulants to decrease the episodes.
