Police are investigating a triple homicide after four people were found dead in western Manitoba Friday morning.

Ste Rose du Lac RCMP responded to a call on Road 84 West in the rural municipality of McCreary at 10:10 a.m. Friday, police said at a press conference Friday afternoon.

A 41-year-old man was found dead from a self-inflicted injury at the location.

Police said they were then requested to make a well-being check on a 37-year-old woman, but she couldn’t be found at her residence.

That led police to check a nearby home where they found three bodies: a 66-year-old woman, and two men aged 65 and 35.

The 37-year-old woman was safely found at around 1 p.m., and was taken to hospital as a precaution, the RCMP said.

‘This is another absolute tragedy here today in Manitoba, and our thoughts are with all those affected,’ Staff Sgt. Richard Sherring said at the press conference Friday afternoon. (Jaison Empson/CBC)

Police said as the events only happened hours before the press conference, they could only provide preliminary information at this point.

“This is another absolute tragedy here today in Manitoba, and our thoughts are with all those affected,” Staff Sgt.  Richard Sherring with RCMP Major Crimes Services said at the press conference.

“We know that there are a lot of questions, but as this is an early investigation, this is all the information I can provide.”

Police said they aren’t looking for any other suspects, and that all individuals were known to each other.

Just over 700 people lived in the municipality of McCreary as of 2021, according to that year’s census.

The community is about 180 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg.
