An Ibis has been shot and killed with an arrow in a “horrendous and cowardly attack” in Brisbane’s north on Thursday.
Police allege the 80cm arrow was shot from the nearby wetland or parklands in Brighton, Brisbane, targetting the bird while it was foraging for food.
The bird’s killing is now being investigated by Queensland Police and the RSPCA.
“Cruelty to animals is a punishable offence and along with the RSPCA, we will investigate this matter fully,” Senior Sergeant Kenneth Rogers said.
“I’d appeal for the person responsible to come forward.
“Likewise, I’d encourage nearby residents along Prince, Princess, Bayview and Shepherd Streets to come forward with relevant CCTV or dashcam between 9am-12pm yesterday.’
A resident from nearby Price Street nursed the injured bird, taking it into their home and comforting it before it succumbed to its wounds, police say.
Anyone with information about the incident has been asked to contact police.
