Pune police fine vehicles used by cops, government officials, personnel of armed forces for flouting norms

The Pune traffic police said that over the last two weeks they have slapped fines on 392 police vehicles, 160 vehicles of government officials and 35 vehicles of the personnel of the Armed forces for flouting various traffic norms. Officials said the actions will continue in the coming days.

Officers from the Pune City Traffic Control Branch said that a few weeks ago, they received multiple complaints on Twitter, where citizens had posted photos of police and government vehicles flouting parking norms, wrong side driving rules and helmet rules among other traffic norms.

“Due cognizance of these Twitter complaints was taken and action was initiated against the police vehicles. A special drive was subsequently undertaken. The divisions were also directed to keep data of those found flouting norms,” said an officer from Pune traffic police.

According to the data shared by Pune traffic police, as on Monday, over the last two weeks, traffic challans were also issued to 30 buses of the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML), 151 vehicles of lawyers and doctors and 27 vehicles of media personnel.

Officials said that over the last three months, challans have been issued to 1,400 people for triple riding on bikes, over 600 for driving on the wrong side, over 12,000 for jumping signals and around 2,800 bikers for tampering with the silencers and flouting noise pollution norms.

“The actions against traffic rule violations under all the specific heads will continue in the coming days,” a police officer said.
