President Biden ‘confident in legal advice’ for compulsory vaccine mandate

President Biden is “confident he’s got legal advice” that vaccinations can be made compulsory for federal government employees, according to the United States Studies Centre’s James Brown.

Mr Brown, who is a Non-Resident Fellow at the Centre, says the issue of mandated vaccines in the United States is “such a contentious issue given how fiercely individual freedoms are protected”.

Mr Brown says the mandate will not be implemented for the military “at this stage”, but federal government employees who remain unvaccinated will be “subject to a whole range of testing regimes, restrictions” and will “find it very difficult to travel around the United States”.

“A similar measure has been brought in place for New York state’s employees, but this is happening at a time when vaccination rates are quite high in the United States,” Mr Brown said.
