A police constable allegedly died by suicide at Karegaon in the Shirur taluka of Pune district Wednesday evening, said officials.
The deceased was identified as Jitendra alias Haribhau Keshav Mandge, 34, who was attached to the Shirur police station of the Pune rural police.
The police said Mandge informed a relative that he was killing himself before attempting suicide at Nave Mala. After receiving information, a police team rushed to the spot and took Mandge to a hospital, where the doctors declared him dead.
The police registered a case of accidental death at the Shirur police station and launched a probe to find the reason behind the alleged suicide.
