Pearson incident was police-involved shooting, SIU confirms

Police and paramedics are on scene at Toronto Pearson International Airport’s Terminal 1 after a police-involved shooting, Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said Thursday morning.

Images from the scene show a heavy police presence with several Peel Regional Police vehicles parked outside Canada’s largest airport. CBC News crews spotted at least a dozen police cars en route to the departures area of Terminal 1.

A number of passengers were seen walking up to the road with their luggage to get to Terminal 1. It is unclear whether flights have been impacted by the incident.

Paramedics said they were called to Terminal 1 just before 7 a.m. and remain on scene, but would not provide further information.
