Official in Bihar’s Madhubani goes missing, kidnapping case registered: Police

A case of kidnapping was lodged by Muzaffarpur police after the district programme officer (DPO), posted in education department of Madhubani went missing from his residence situated in Ayachi Gram locality, police said.

Rajesh Kumar Mishra, a DPO posted in Madhubani, mysteriously disappeared from Ahiyapur in Muzaffarpur.

When he did not reach his residence till late night, his wife lodged a complaint with Ahiyapur police station on Monday.

The missing DPO’s wife said her husband had left the house on foot around 1pm on Sunday. He had returned from Madhubani on Saturday evening and his phone was switched off when she had tried calling him.

According to his wife, the family had no dispute of any kind with anyone in the vicinity. The missing DPO is a native of Laheriasarai locality in Darbhanga district.

The DPO had built a house by purchasing a piece of land in Ayachi Gram locality of Muzaffarpur and stayed with his family, police said.

Town DSP Raghav Dayal said the DPO suddenly went missing around noon on Sunday.

The relatives of missing DPO claimed that he had been receiving threat calls from a mobile number. However, since his disappearance, the mobile number was switched off.

A case under section 363 and 365 of IPC was launched and an investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, district education officer (DEO) of Madhubani, when contacted, could not be reached.

The DPO had joined his posting at Madhubani on July 13, 2022.
